Planting Designer

  • Company: Harris Bugg Studio
  • Location: Nationwide

We’re looking for an experienced planting designer to work at Harris Bugg Studio on our range of residential, public and commercial projects located across the country.

You’ll have at least 3 years of planting design experience working on high quality landscape projects, a love for plants, a keen eye for associations, strong horticultural knowledge and an ability to work with our clients/their gardeners in the long term to further develop their gardens.

You’ll possess good visual, verbal and written communications skills as well as exceptional organisation skills and you’ll be able to work to tight deadlines. Able to work effectively as both an individual and part of a team, you will be eligible to work in the UK, possess any relevant visas and be fluent in spoken and written English. Other important qualities that we really value: responsibility, receptiveness and flexible; open to new ideas and able to both give and receive feedback. We love people who are driven; who have a positive, can-do attitude; who go the extra mile; and who have rigorous attention to detail.

We understand that people work in different ways when it comes to planting design, and people often have preferences between hand and CAD. We’re happy to work with you on this. Ideally you’d have good drawing skills, experience in the Adobe suite, and good word processing/spreadsheet skills. For those who work in CAD, we work in Vectorworks, and we’re happy to provide training in this for those who have used other packages.

Our studios are based in Devon and London with a satellite studio in Dumfriesshire due to open in 2021 but we are entirely open to you being based from home or at the studio, or a combination of the two. Travel to projects and nurseries is an inherent part of this role.

We are progressive and innovative team who are committed to producing exceptional work, and who also take creativity and well-being seriously. Our view is that this is a part-time role, with flexibility about how those hours are worked, and the potential for the role to become full-time - but that’s open for discussion with the right candidate. The salary is competitive, dependent on qualifications and previous relevant experience.

When applying please send us a brief CV about yourself as well as a portfolio which includes a minimum of three and preferably five planting projects that you have yourself designed and completed. We also ask you to include thoughts on 2-3 planted spaces (not your own) that you admire the planting of and why you feel it is so powerful. This should be emailed to studio@harrisbugg.com by close of business on Monday 14th December. Interviews will take place by video.

We are committed to improving the diversity of backgrounds in our studio to be more reflective of the broader population and particularly welcome applications from black, asian and minority ethnic candidates.
