Sketch Up - An introduction to the basics
This is a two-day event which will be run via Zoom at the following times:
29th April 2021 from 3.30pm - 6.30pm
30th April 2021 from 3.30pm - 6.30pm

Please note that this event will be recorded and will be made available to delegates after the event. Course Tutor: John Wood

This course is aimed at the complete beginner, along with those of you who might already have some experience but would like a thorough grounding in good working practice.  SketchUp is a highly intuitive programme and in many ways is beautifully easy to use, however there are certain basic principles and techniques which, if learned from the outset, can make this highly sophisticated software really work for us as designers.

By the end of these 2 x three hour sessions, course participants will have acquired sufficient knowledge to draw a small garden precisely to scale both in 2-dimensional plan and in 3-dimensional elevation and perspective. SketchUp lends itself particularly well to working in 3D and so an understanding of how best to work in 3D will be described from the start. Once there is a good understanding of how best to create three-dimensional objects and of how best to draw up plans with millimetre accuracy, some time will be given to the basics of getting our SketchUp model looking good for presentation to clients.

Digital planting techniques will be covered in later courses staged at intermediate and advanced levels.

All courses will be recorded and so there is no requirement to take notes during the sessions as all recordings will be made available to course participants after the event.

Supplementary teaching support will be provided to course participants in the form of short, explanatory videos backing up the material covered on the course.

Teaching will be by real-time demonstration with plenty of time made available for questions.

The course tutor will be demonstrating on SketchUp Pro 2019. There is a free version of SketchUp available online. Although this works pretty well, the interface is very different from the Pro version and so will be difficult to relate to the course content. Good news, however, is that SketchUp Pro offers a  30 day free trial and so participants would be best advised to sign up to this just prior to the course start date, so as to be able to take full advantage of the 30 day offer and to be able to practice topics covered on the course in their own time.
