Vectorworks 2022 has thrown down the gauntlet with new rendering capabilities, not least the new live link to Twinmotion. With this link we can now model in Vectorworks and see the changes happen to the design within Twimotion. This could revolutionise our workflow, enabling us to share fully rendered designs with clients at any stage of the process.

This workshop will be a follow on from my Vectorworks workshops, taking a given garden, modelling and rendering it in Vectorworks, then taking it from Vectorworks into Twinmotion.

Within the Twinmotion programme, basic navigation and commands will be covered. Renders and textures will be re-applied, paying attention to the hard landscaping as well as plants and water. Images will be captured and worked on individually. Animations/video will capture the garden from sunrise to sunset. Further videos will see the garden not only move from winter to summer to autumn, but also see the plants grow and develop from planting to maturity.

You will need:

  • a computer with sufficient memory and graphics card.
  • A mouse with left and right click and scroll wheel.
  • Either Vectorworks or SketchUp.
  • A free license of Twinmotion.

A basic Vectorworks file will be shared – you will be able to have a go at rendering within Vectorworks and then take this file into Twinmotion for final rendering.

Although the main thrust of the workshop will be the transition from Vectorworks to Twinmotion, SketchUp users are welcome so long as you can render your model within SketchUp; I can almost certainly work with both on the day. Imported models from either Vectorworks or SketchUp work perfectly within the Twinmotion framework. A sketchUp file can be shared if requested.

n.b. A certain degree of basic IT skills are required for this workshop. As the session will be on Zoom, questions are welcome throughout the workshop, and individual support given wherever possible; however, one-on-one tuition will be limited by the nature of the technology and by the size of the group.
