Water is present on or flows through most gardens and landscapes.

It is essential to understand the presence and the flow of water through a site from the outset of a project, so that its impact can be both mitigated and designed intelligently into a scheme.

This webinar will highlight strategies for approaching a site, through to design solutions that embrace and anticipate the erratic presence or lack of water in a garden.

The focus will be on construction and detailing rather than plant species.

Topics include:

  • rain/ surface water drainage
  • rainwater gardens, swales and culverts
  • site control for surface water
  • reed beds
  • soakaways and attenuation tanks
  • ground water

The basics of specifying and detailing drainage in typical garden constructions:

  • slot drains: types and where to use them
  • soak-aways: designs and when they are suitable
  • lawn drainage
  • patios: falls and perimeter drainage
  • permeable: surfaces and sub-bases
  • steps: falls and drainage
  • falls: in general, for paving and hard landscaping
  • retaining walls and rear drainage

target audience: anyone who undertakes construction detailing as part of their landscape/ garden design output.
