RHS Cardiff Flower Show

Dates: 13-15 April 2018


Description: The RHS Flower Show Cardiff kick starts the flower show season in the UK, bringing together the best of horticulture, as well as spring-inspired show gardens. The show is ideal for designers wishing to cut their teeth at an RHS Show and gain some experience.

To apply: RHS Cardiff welcomes applications from designers and landscape architects. The deadline for the 2018 show is 20 December 2017.

Funding: Sponsorship will be required for all the show gardens

RHS Malvern Spring Festival

Dates: 11-14 May 2017; 10-13 May 2018


Description: The annual Malvern Spring Festival includes a range of high quality show gardens and nursery displays, alongside top tips from garden experts. As well as Show Gardens, 2017 brings a new category of Spa Gardens, with new and upcoming designers being mentored by Jo Thompson MSGD.

To apply: The RHS Malvern Spring Festival is open to experienced garden designers and landscape architects, and to design students. The deadline for the 2018 Spring Festival is 1 October 2017.

Funding: The show gardens are funded by third-party sponsorship; the selected Spa Garden designs will be offered a bursary to support the cost of the garden build.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Dates: 23-27 May 2017; 22-26 May 2018


Description: The jewel in the RHS’s crown, the annual Chelsea Flower Show is the pinnacle of horticultural and design excellence, luring the best designers worldwide to contribute Main Avenue Show Gardens, Fresh Gardens, and Artisan Gardens.

To apply: Chelsea invites all experienced garden and landscape designers to apply to take part in the show. The deadline for the 2018 show is 4 August 2017.

Funding: All show gardens are funded by third-party sponsorship except the RHS design feature garden, which this year is being created by Professor Nigel Dunnett.

RHS Chatsworth Flower Show

Dates: 7-11 June 2017; 6-10 June 2018


Description: The inaugural RHS Chatsworth Flower Show opens this June with the theme ‘Design Revolutionaries’. It will include eight Freeform gardens, including one for Brewin Dolphin by Jo Thompson MSGD, and seven show gardens, which will be judged in the usual way.

To apply: RHS Chatsworth welcomes applications from experienced garden and landscape designers and creative collaborations. The deadline for applications for the 2018 show is early August 2017.

Funding: All show gardens are funded by third-party sponsorship.

RHS Hampton Court Flower Show

Dates: 4-9 July 2017; 3-8 July 2018


Description: The world’s largest annual flower show boasts an eclectic mix of show gardens and horticultural displays, covering over 34 acres on either side of the dramatic long water, with the stunning façade of the historical Hampton Court Palace in the background.

To apply: RHS Hampton Court welcomes applications from experienced garden and landscape designers and creative collaborations that incorporate horticulture at its highest level. The rough garden application deadline for the 2018 show is 6 October 2017 for Conceptual and Gardens for a Changing World, then 3 November 2017 for all other show gardens.

RHS Flower Show Tatton Park

Date: 19-23 July 2017; 18-22 July 2018


Description: Home of the RHS Young Designer of the Year award, where three designers battle it out for the title with a spectacular show garden, Tatton Park also presents a range of show gardens to suit all tastes and budgets. The theme for the Young Designers gardens this year is ‘A Garden Office’. The show also hosts the RHS Young Landscape Contractor and Young Planting Designer Competitions.

To apply: RHS Flower Show Tatton Park welcomes applications from all experienced designers. Applicatants for the RHS Young Designer of the Year, Landscape and Planting Designers’ competitions must be under 28 years old at the time of the show. The deadline for the 2018 show is early October 2017.

Funding: The show gardens are funded by third-party sponsorship; the selected Young Designers, and Landscape and Planting Design teams will each be offered a bursary to support the cost of the garden build.
