Course Tutor: John Wood

The prerequisite for this Advanced level SketchUp course is that all attendees are confident with all content covered in the Beginner and Intermediate courses.

The course will include the following:

  • Creation of plants for use in SketchUp from one’s own photos and the internet
  • Creating a personalised library of plants and textures
  • Various presentation techniques
  • Modelling slopes and contours
  • Modelling features such as steps and walls into contoured slopes
  • Integrating 2D designs into complex sloping geometry
  • Working with imported .dwg and PDF files - from architects’ and surveyors’ drawings
  • Use of additional supplementary programme Layout within SketchUp
  • Planting plans within Layout
  • Presentation of drawings in Layout

All courses will be recorded and so there is no requirement to take notes during the sessions as all recordings will be made available to course participants after the event.

Supplementary teaching support will be provided to course participants in the form of short, explanatory videos backing up the material covered on the course.

Teaching will be by real-time demonstration with plenty of time made available for questions.

The course tutor will be demonstrating on SketchUp Pro 2019. There is a free version of SketchUp available online. Although this works pretty well, the interface is very different from the Pro version and so will be difficult to relate to the course content. Good news, however, is that SketchUp Pro offers a  30 day free trial and so participants would be best advised to sign up to this just prior to the course start date, so as to be able to take full advantage of the 30 day offer and to be able to practice topics covered on the course in their own time.
