Drawing is primarily a communication tool. Its use dates back to Neolithic times and beyond. When you pick up a piece of charcoal, you use a tool familiar to our ancestors from 20,000 years ago. They produced images recognisable to others which continue to engage across the millenia.
Guided by artist and tutor Janet Forry this workshop will explore drawing as a tool for information gathering, communication and aesthetic enhancement. Introducing exercises to “deconstruct” the drawing process and give participants new insights and skills to successfully incorporate drawing into their design process. Using observational drawing techniques with a variety of drawing media.
Drawing will take place in a nearby park to experience how to be selective when faced with the complexity of the outdoors. If the weather is too inclement there will be studio-style setups to practice on.
The day will conclude with questions, discussion, and sharing of ideas for future drawing practice. Sharing the day with others is of great benefit. It will give insights as to “how drawing works” and will improve skills and confidence. Participants will leave with some confidence and useful techniques that allow them to enhance their design practice and communication with clients and others.
