Target Audience: Introductory
Overview:
This course is aimed at the complete beginner, along with those people who might already have some experience, but who would like a thorough grounding in good working practice. SketchUp is a highly intuitive programme and in many ways is beautifully easy to use, however there are certain basic principles and techniques which, if learned from the outset, can make this highly sophisticated software really work for us as designers.
By the end of this six hour course, participants will have acquired sufficient knowledge to draw a small garden precisely to scale both in 2-dimensional plan and elevation along with 3D perspectives.
SketchUp lends itself particularly well to working in 3D and so an understanding of how best to work in 3D will be described from the start.
Once there is a good understanding of how best to create 3-dimensional objects and of how best to draw up plans with millimetre accuracy, some time will be given to the basics of rendering our SketchUp model for presentation to clients.
Teaching will be by real-time demonstration with plenty of time made available for questions. The course tutor will be demonstrating on a PC.
There is a free version of SketchUp available online. Although this works fairly well, the interface is very different from the Pro version and so will be difficult to relate to the course content. The good news, however, is that SketchUp Pro offers a 30 day free trial. Participants would be best advised to sign up to this just prior to the course start date, so as to be able to take full advantage of the 30 day offer and to be able to practice topics covered on the course in their own time.
